KYC — “know your customer” — is the identity check every UK-licensed casino runs. At Betmica it happens at sign-up, before you can deposit or spin a single reel. For most players it’s invisible: an electronic check confirms your details in seconds. For the rest, it means uploading a few documents. Our team has been through both routes, and this guide covers how to get it right first time.
Why UK casinos must verify you
Under Gambling Commission rules, every UK operator must confirm your age and identity before you deposit or play — not later, when you try to withdraw. The checks exist to:
- keep under-18s out (Betmica is strictly 18+);
- stop fraud, stolen cards and money laundering;
- enforce self-exclusion through GAMSTOP;
- support affordability checks, so nobody gambles beyond their means.
Betmica’s UK site says it holds a Great Britain licence from the Gambling Commission — always check the licence number in the casino’s footer against the Commission’s public register. Verification is part of what that licence requires.
Step one: the automatic electronic check
When you complete the three-step Betmica registration, the name, date of birth and address you enter are checked against credit-reference and electoral-roll data. This takes seconds and leaves only a “soft” footprint — it doesn’t affect your credit score.
If everything matches, you’re verified and can deposit straight away. If it doesn’t match, you’ll see a “verification required” banner and be asked to upload documents. Common reasons for a mismatch:
- you’ve moved recently and the new address isn’t on file yet;
- you typed a nickname or missed a middle name;
- the postcode or house number has a small typo;
- you’re not on the electoral roll.
Tip
Enter your details exactly as they appear on your bank statement. In our tests, that’s the single biggest factor in passing the electronic check first time.
Accepted documents
If manual verification is needed, Betmica asks for documents from the categories below. You’ll usually need one from each of the first three.
| Purpose | Accepted documents | Key requirements |
|---|---|---|
| Photo ID | Passport, UK driving licence (photocard), national ID card | Valid (not expired), all four corners visible, photo clear |
| Proof of address | Utility bill, bank statement, council tax letter | Dated within the last 3 months, your full name and address |
| Proof of payment | Photo of debit card (middle digits covered), e-wallet account screenshot | Name matches your Betmica account |
| Source of funds (if asked) | Recent payslips, bank statements | Covers the period requested |
For the debit card photo, cover the middle eight digits and the CVV on the back — only the first six and last four digits, your name and the expiry date should show. For PayPal, Skrill or Neteller, a screenshot of the account page showing your name and email works.
How to photograph documents so they aren’t rejected
Upload through the Verification section of your Betmica account — never by email attachment unless support asks you to. Our checklist:
- Lay the document flat on a dark, plain surface in good daylight. Avoid flash, which causes glare on photocards.
- Capture the whole page or card, all four corners visible, with nothing cropped or folded.
- Keep it sharp — tap to focus and hold the phone steady. Every character must be readable.
- Use the original, not a screenshot of a scan or a photo of a screen.
- Upload as JPG, PNG or PDF, one file per document, and check the preview before submitting.

Why documents get rejected
If Betmica rejects an upload, the email or account notice usually gives the reason. The most common ones we’ve seen:
- Blurry or cropped image — re-take the photo following the checklist above.
- Expired ID — a passport or licence past its expiry date isn’t accepted.
- Address document too old — must be dated within 3 months; a bill from last spring won’t do.
- Name or address mismatch — the document must match the account details exactly. If you’ve moved, update your address with support first.
- Wrong document type — mobile phone bills and screenshots of online banking homepages are often refused; a full PDF statement works better.
- Payment method not in your name — joint accounts may need an extra document; a third party’s card won’t be accepted at all.
Source-of-funds and affordability checks
Separate from basic KYC, UK casinos must check that gambling is affordable. At Betmica this can be triggered by higher deposits, a sharp rise in spending, or account-level risk indicators. You may be asked for:
- recent payslips;
- bank statements covering one to three months;
- other proof of income, such as a pension or benefits letter.
While the review runs, deposits and play may be paused. That isn’t an accusation — it’s a legal requirement. If you’d rather not share financial documents, you can ask to set lower deposit limits instead, or close the account and withdraw your balance.
How long verification takes
| Stage | Typical time |
|---|---|
| Electronic check at sign-up | Seconds |
| Manual document review | Usually 24–48 hours |
| Re-upload after rejection | Another 24–48 hours from the new upload |
| Source-of-funds / affordability review | Varies; often a few working days |
Verification must be complete before your first Betmica withdrawal, so getting it done early avoids a delay when you want to cash out. See withdrawal problems for how a KYC hold affects payouts.
Is my data safe?
Your documents go to Betmica, not to us — we’re an independent guide and never see or store them. UK operators must handle personal data under UK GDPR: store it securely, use it only for the stated purposes and keep it no longer than needed. Practical tips:
- upload only through the logged-in Betmica site over HTTPS;
- never send documents to anyone contacting you through social media or unsolicited email;
- you can ask Betmica what data they hold through a subject access request.
Our own data practices are explained in our privacy policy.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need to verify before I can play at Betmica?
+
Yes. UK rules require age and identity checks before any deposit or play. Most players pass the automatic check in seconds at sign-up.
How long does Betmica KYC take?
+
The electronic check is instant. Manual document reviews usually take 24–48 hours.
Why was my proof of address rejected?
+
Usually because it’s older than 3 months, cropped, or the address doesn’t exactly match your account. Upload a full, recent utility bill, bank statement or council tax letter.
Will the electronic check affect my credit score?
+
No. It’s a soft identity check and isn’t visible to lenders.
